Alma - Portuguese restaurant in Frankfurt
Right away: the Alma is not your typical Portuguese restaurant .... it is featured under this category because the owner - Zaira Ponte - is Portuguese and because sometimes the one or other Portuguese classic - "carne de porco à Alentejana" or the one or other "bacalhau" dish find their way on to the "daily recommendation" blackboard.
The Alma (Portuguese for “soul”) is a refreshingly laidback hidden jewel in a quiet street of Frankfurt’s swank Nordend district where the atmosphere is always cheerful and buzzy and the inventive small menu changes almost daily.
Cuisine served is international, season oriented and mainly with local organic products, where sensible with an individuated Portuguese touch. Many, in Germany, difficult to find wines from Portugal are offered and a “pastel de nata” for your after dinner “bica” is always freshly held.
Book in advance – walk-ins are risky, the Alma is seldomly not booked to the last few seats– for a table in the small dining room or opt for one of the places at the bar – for those warm afternoons and evenings a wonderful quiet terrace invites.
