Alt-Byblos - Lebanese restaurant in Frankfurt, Bad Homburg

ATTENTION: The Alt-Byblos has moved - this page is only here, for a while, so that old customers can find it.
The Alt-Byblos is now in Bad Homburg, Obergasse 1, Tel: 06172 9448454
18,6 km away from the Messe main gate, about 30 minutes taxi ride and approx. fare of € 50,-

Byblos ("Jbail" in Lebanese Arabic) lies a 30 minute drive north of Beirut and is a modern town with an ancient heart - a warm mix of sophistication and tradition. These very same attributes characterise this excellent restaurant.

The interior decoration and ambiance are of a typical (Lebanese) classical elegance - white and blue - and the fare is authentic, which means fresh, tasty, plentiful and invigorating, combining the subtle flavours of Europe with the exotic spices of the Middle and Far East.

The real highlight are the so-called "mezze", a never-ending chain of small dishes, presented in an array of colours, flavours, textures and aromas. For example, taste the "Hummus Beiruti" (a mousse of chickpeas mixed with a touch of garlic, roasted sesame paste, lemon juice and chopped parsley)! It is absolutely divine. And this is only one dish amongst a multitude of culinary delights!

One of the favourite main dishes in Lebanon is "kibbeh", a fine mixture of minced lamb, bulgar wheat and spices. It is served in many variations, the most popular one being "kibbeh nayee" (raw), similar to our "steak tartar". Whichever you choose, you will not be disappointed. Also, grab a piece of that marvelous arab bread seasoned with "zaatar" (thyme-sumac).

The wine list is fine and includes some of Lebanese origin - among others an excellent "Chateau Kefraya" from the Bekaa Valley. Traditionally, the Lebanese eat fresh fruit for dessert but if you have a sweeter tongue, pick the famous "baklava" and finish up the evening with a strong Lebanese coffee with cardamom.

Usually, Friday and Saturday nights are ideal to invite friends for an unforgettable convivial dinner where an oriental dance culminates a fantastic evening. You should however check with the restaurant in advance. An attractive and moderately priced business lunch menu is also available from 12 to 3pm. Enjoy the small terrace in the summer! On Wednesdays (and by pre-order!) Cous-Cous is served. Very attractive and moderately priced business lunch menus are offered and during summer a terrace is available.
