Caricatura Museum Frankfurt - Museum for Humorous Art
Despite being a newcomer on Frankfurt's museum scene, this place can more than compete with the establishment: The caricatura museum frankfurt - Museum for Humorous Art - has been housed in the historical Leinwandhaus between the cathedral and the Main river with its collection of over 4,000 original caricatures by the artists of the legendary "New Frankfurt School" since 2008. This is a museum unlike any other in the world: it is bursting at the seams with humour.
The permanent exhibition showcases works by F.W. Bernstein, Robert Gernhardt, Chlodwig Poth, Hans Traxler and F.K. Waechter, who, by founding the German satirical magazines PARDON and TITANIC, made Frankfurt the "Capital of Satire". Temporary exhibitions are devoted to other well-known proponents of the art of humorous drawing, such as Gerhard Haderer, Tomi Ungerer, Rudi Hurzlmeier, Michael Sowa, Ernst Kahl and Marie Marcks.
More laughs are to be had at live events, such as readings and book presentations. One of the highlights is the annual contribution to the Museumsuferfest with the Festival of Humour.
