10th and 11th June 2017
Always in late May/early June, this street festival attracts thousands of people from the entire Rhein-Main region and has over the years, particularly for purist Nordendlers, become a wee too commercial.
The lower Berger Strasse - the part between Höhen Strasse and Bethmannpark - bursts with food stands from all corners of the world tucked between stands of local shops and restaurants. The manifold food offer, exotic drinks, the one or other stage with live music and a nice offer for kiddies makes it an ideal outing happening for the whole family.
And, as insiders know, you simply have to sneak into the side streets to find quieter spots with high entertainment value.
The absolute favorite spot for „Nordendlers“ - a little out of the action, yet with an eye on it - is the wonderful Weinhalle stand on Merianplatz on the corner between Luisen and Merian Strasse. Good for relaxing yet without missing „what’s happening“ and the music from the Merianplatz stage.
For a more gemütlich - and comfortably seated - dinner a little away from the noise we recommend for German cuisine the cosy Mosebach on Sandweg (5 minutes walk from Merianplatz.
Visitors looking for more typical Frankfurt cuisine are well taken care of at the centuries old cider tavern Zur Schönen Müllerin For Asian cuisine just off Berger Strasse guests should go for the ever popular Húe.
More discerning dinners have an excellent offer at the Fette Henne or at the Trares.
For that quiet cocktail after dinner nothing beats the Hinterzimmer (now Sub Rosa) on Gauss Strasse (2 minutes from Merianplatz). For a quiet coffee or an opulent brunch on Sunday the Ypsilon is the place.
What shopping concerns ….. one of Frankfurt’s top vintage stores - the Escatira - is located on Merianplatz. An haircut can be had at N-kuentro and a manicure or facial at Hautschön. Both subject to pre-booking!
