Culture & Festivals in Frankfurt and the Rhein-Main region

There is a lot more to Frankfurt than Goethe, the Messe or the airport - if not quantity certainly quality wise! Rich contrastful architecture, amazing museums, a world class opera, a very interesting ballet company founded by no other than William Forsythe, the Museums Embankment Festival which belongs to the largests by visitors and most colourful in Europe, markets like the Frankfurt Xmas Market in the meanwhile an export product, a very vivid popular music scene - Sven Väth started his career in Frankfurt, the Jazzkeller is one the continent's oldest jazz clubs where the likes of Louis Armstrong (once way back in 1954) Dizzy Gillespie, Chet Baker and many other really big names were regularly on the bill.

For the more academic, Frankfurt still retains a lot of the character and a few historic points associated with the 1968 student movement and the Frankfurter Schule (Frankfurt school) around figures like Adorno, Habermas, Marcuse or Horkheimer.
